About Veronica Ruiz

In 2004, I founded CXR Design in order to work from home while raising my son, Cristian (who is now a US Marine). I closed the doors in 2010 to go in a new direction while continuing to freelance.

I studied Visual Communication in Austin, TX; which consisted of Graphic Design, Web Design, Animation, and Illustration. I attained by BA in Art with a minor in teaching from the University of Texas in El Paso. My academic focus at UTEP was on Ceramics, Printmaking, and Creative Writing.

Graphic Design has been the accent to most of my career opportunities. In one way or another, I've been able to implement design basics into most jobs that are not art focused.

At the end of 2019 I moved to the greenest, wettest, and dog-friendliest place on earth: The PNW. ♥ I moved up there for a specific non-art position, which eventually evolved into a remote graphic design one once the pandemic hit.

Currently, I'm back in West Texas and am open to taking on new clients. The beauty of design work and technology is that I can work with you from wherever you may hail from.

COMPOSITE APPLICATION GUIDANCE FOR WPF

A GUIDE TO CLAIMS-BAED IDENTITY AND ACCESS CONTROL

This is one my first big projects. Working with the Microsoft patterns & practices group, I had my design work published online as well as in print. You can see the online version HERE.

PROJECTS - MY PROCESS

Connecting with Homeowners and Managing their Properties (CH&MP) was a company that wore several hats (has several branches within it). I had been tasked to create social media content for several platforms. I was asked to look at the company website, FB, and Instagram feeds to get an idea on what to design. It was challenging and required a lot of research. I began with online research, then sketches (which you see on the left panel), then created a variety of designs. These are some of the first version of designs that I created for three of the company's Instagram feeds. The owner absolutely loved the designs and had me redo all of her training materials including revamping her entire branding.

THREE FOUR PROPERTY MANAGEMENT

This client provided several samples of the look and feel that she wanted to convey in her logo. This is an example of my first attempt at capturing that. She loved it. However, just to be sure, I designed 2 other versions to give her different options.

This is what was presented to the client. She debated between options 1 and 2. Her final logo can be found under "Designs". :)

SLIMES BY TAZ

This young entrepreneur has been making her own slime since she was in middle school. Kids have been buying her slime for quite some time now. She asked me if I'd create her logo for her so that she could start branding herself. She submitted a few samples from slime companies on Instagram. Although she thought this first design was cute, I am working to evolve it to suit her company the best. Below is the 2nd version of her logo.

After really looking at what she had submitted and who her target audience was, I re-designed her logo. Here's the catch. I don't draw anime characters. She thought it was cute and was pleased with the drastic change, but I worked on it again without mentioning it to her. Primarily for myself at this point. Ha ha. I knew that I had to sketch it by hand in order to get the anime effect right.

From pencil sketch to digital. My client was torn between the 2nd and 3rd designs, but quickly opted for the final design; which is my favorite for her, too. I'm sure my 10th try would be even better. That's the amazing thing about practice. Am I right?
